The Fairhope Educational Enrichment Foundation (FEEF) has established the “Dee Fuhrman Professional Development Fund” in honor of Executive Director Dee Fuhrman, who is relocating to Salt Lake City.

“Dee has worked tirelessly on behalf of FEEF and the students and teachers in the Fairhope public schools,” Rick Kingrea, president of FEEF board of directors said. “She has been an integral part of this organization since 1998. Her commitment and dedication are unparalleled. She will certainly be missed.

“As a former teacher and assistant principal in Fairfax, Virginia, Dee has a particular interest in professional development. Therefore, we thought it would be a fitting honor to establish a fund in her name that would allow teachers to receive monies for additional training, attending conferences and other teacher enrichment programs,” Kingrea added.

Under Ms. Fuhrman’s leadership, FEEF has provided more than $150,000 in student and teacher grants for use in the classroom. Additionally, FEEF has awarded $10,000 to the Fairhope High School to purchase new band instruments, $5,000 to the Elementary School for a media lab, and $6,000 to the school libraries. In 2004, FEEF was awarded the Civic Star Award for the State of Alabama by the American Association of School Administrators as well as the Lillian McGowin Award for Outstanding Foundation by the Alabama Gulf Coast Chapter of Fundraising Professionals.

The Fairhope Educational Enrichment Foundation was formed in 1996 to promote and enrich educational opportunities for all Fairhope public school students. Heather Cunningham, who assisted Ms. Fuhrman’s and served as public relations director for FEEF, has been named the new executive director.
